Free Art Workshops for Middle School & High School Students

Art For a Cause is a series of Saturday workshops for 6th-12th grade students co-sponsored by Young Rhinebeck, Bard College and Morton Memorial Library & Community House.  The focus of the fall, 2009 series will be book making and book reconstruction.

WHEN:   Saturdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon, Oct. 17, 24, 31 and Nov. 14  (Note: No workshop on Nov. 7)

WHERE:  Morton Memorial Library & Community House, 82 Kelly Street, Rhinecliff

WHAT:   In this series of four workshops led by Bard College art students, young artists of Rhinebeck will be learning how to create books! Our first two workshops will be devoted to taking apart old books, learning how they are put together, and turning them into art the students can call their own. The last two workshops will be all about making books: sewn books, accordion books, and even a little bit about hardcover books. By the end, each student will have made and designed their own notebooks, diaries, or sketchbooks, and will also make some to donate to a children's organization of their choice.

REGISTRATION: Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The workshop is limited to 20 students. To register for the series, call Young Rhinebeck at 309-0932 or email info@youngrhinebeck.org.
