Town of Rhinebeck receives $1,550,000 DEC Grant Award from Governor Paterson.
Town of Rhinebeck Town Supervisor Thomas Traudt is proud to announce that Governor Paterson has awarded the Town of Rhinebeck a $1,550,000 Grant from the Department of Environmental Conservation's Water Quality Improvement Project Program (WQIP). The grant is to assist the Rhinebeck community for the replacement of the Sewage Treatment System for the Vanderburgh Cove Sewer District.
Nestled on the banks of the Hudson River and natural wetlands, the community of 40 homes (30 in Rhinebeck and 10 in Hyde Park) has lacked safe and sufficient waste facilities for decades and the burden to resolve the issue has frustrated residents and community leaders for just as long. This grant will assist Vanderburgh Cove development residents by bringing down the extensive financial impact of the new treatment system and help to preserve the environmental health of the Hudson River Estuary.
Resolving this has been the collaborative efforts of the community residents and community leaders. Town Councilman Bruce Washburn states that when he Councilman Staley and Supervisor Traudt took office, they dedicated themselves to resolving the "Cove Issue" by putting themselves in the shoes of the home-owners and opening the door to the community's input and involvement.
The grant was supported by Senator Steve Saland and Members of the Assembly Kevin Cahill and Joel Miller.
