Recreation Committee

May 28, 2008

Regular Meeting

 

 

Town Councilman/Chairman:  Bruce Washburn

Present:  Tom Connolly, Rhonda Hammond (Secretary), David Miller, Henry deVries (Vice-Chair), Alyson Peluso, Tom Traudt and Katie Clarke

Absent:  Svend Beecher

 

 

Committee met at Rec Park at 6:30 to discuss issues that need to be taken care of before the camp/pool opens full time.  Henry will get a list together for Bruce.  Ellen Litton and Philip Berenzky went through the walk-thru with us.

 

Regular meeting started at 7:10 at Town Hall.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Ø      Motion made to approve April minutes.  Motion approved.  Rhonda will email to Barbara Cunningham.

Ø      Interviews - Henry advised that interviews are complete.  We have a full staff of counselors, lifeguards, aqua instructor, swim instructors, etc.  There are four senior guard positions and they will be filled appropriately.

Ø      Programs for summer - Bruce will get a price on a PA system for bands at the pool.  Alyson will get prices on a screen to show films at the pool.  We have a projector in house.

Ø      Camp - We are still working on the 7th week.  Katie will talk with Arthur Pritchard regarding the TM Park's agenda.  47 campers have signed up for the 7th week.

Ø      BOH - Alyson has received our permit to open the pool for 2008 season.

Ø      Pool Signs - Alyson was given the wording and will look over and send to Timely Signs.  The signs were already paid for in the 2007 budget.

Ø      Registration went smoothly however enrollment is down from previous years. 

Ø      Town - wide scavenger hunt - Bruce advised the Daughters of the Revolution do something similar - we will help them get the word out.

Ø      Discussed helping community groups with their dates so that the citizens know what is going on in the community.  Rhonda agreed to become liaison for this and would put the dates on the Town website.  Bruce will contact web committee to get Rhonda access.

Ø      TM Park Committee came into the meeting to discuss Art's camp program.  Again, Katie will meet with him to discuss at length.

Ø      Sarah Rifenburgh has resigned from the committee.  Patty Lancto was appointed to the committee May 27th, 2008.

Ø      Svend Beecher has now missed three consecutive meetings.  The minutes of March 26, 2008 state that any member missing three consecutive meetings will be considered resigned from committee.  By unanimous vote Svend is resigned from committee as of May 29, 2008.

Ø      A question was raised by a resident if we are going to have a Bronx Zoo trip as we had last year.  By unanimous vote we agreed to NOT have this trip this year.  Alyson will contact Lepracun Tours to find out the information for residents to use on their own and put it on the website.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

Ø      Recreation Director Report - Alyson advised that everything is in order.  The pool opening went very well.  We discussed an option of having a grand opening at the pool on July 4th.  She will work on this.  Also discussed the need for a new phone in the cashier area - this phone must be hard wired not portable.

Ø      Spring Spruce Up - David advised that this went very well over the 2 Saturdays.  The buildings look great and everyone was satisfied.

Ø      Concession Stand - Rhinebeck Deli was hired and appears to be doing well.

Ø      Diving Boards - Bruce advised that the diving board was ordered.

Ø      Pool Fence - Railing for bottom has been done.

Ø      Basketball Court - Henry advised that this was approved and work starts on May 29th

Ø      Fields -  Bruce advised that the baseball teams want a shed and electricity for Stone Church.  The shed has been donated and we are looking into the wiring for electric. 

Ø      T-M Park Update - Nothing new.

Ø      By unanimous vote the committee agreed to give free pool passes the Germany Exchange students.

Ø      Henry motioned and Rhonda seconded the ability for Recreation Committee Members and their immediate family to have free pool passes.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.

 

 

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm
